Dan Jaffe received a master’s degree from Princeton’s School of Public and International Affairs in 1967 and a law degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1970. He became legislative assistant to Congressman Frank Evans (D-Colo.) with responsibility for agriculture, environmental and consumer protection appropriations. A particular success was providing substantial line-item funding for the 17 Black Land Grant colleges. Jaffe later became staff director of the consumer subcommittee of the Senate Commerce Committee and subsequently committee counsel of that committee. He worked on successful passage of the Toxic Substances Control Act, the Appliance Labeling Act and Air-Bag mandates for motor vehicles. After 11 years of Capitol Hill service, Jaffe became the head of the government relations office of the American Advertising Federation and later the group executive vice president of the Association of National Advertisers, whose members carry out $400 billion of marketing and advertising annually. In these posts, he focused on tax, First Amendment, privacy and advertising self-regulation issues. He now is a consultant on privacy issues.
