Janeria Easley’s research and teaching specialties as an assistant professor in the Department of African American Studies at Emory University include social stratification, urban studies and media studies. She is interested in racialized barriers to well-being and examines outcomes such as intergenerational mobility, employment patterns, neighborhood resources, commercial investment, residential segregation and home ownership. Her academic interests were shaped by a lifetime spent moving between cities with rich histories: Trenton, N.J.; Durham, N.C.; Philadelphia and now Atlanta. Easley received her B.A. in sociology and English from Duke University and her Ph.D. in sociology, with a concentration in demography, from Princeton. She also completed a vice provost’s postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania.
