Janet Holmgren (McKay) *74 received her Ph.D. in linguistics and English. She resides in Oakland, California, where she successfully led Mills College as president and Susan Mills Professor of English from 1991 to 2011. She has two daughters and six wondrous grandchildren. She currently serves as affiliate faculty at the University of California, Berkeley, a board member of the Transformational Partnership Fund, a board member of the Orot Center for New Jewish Learning and principal of her consulting firm, Jangren Higher Education. Her areas of specialization include the language of leadership, enhancing diversity and fostering women’s advancement. She served Princeton from 1988-91 as vice provost. In 2007, she was elected to the Princeton Board of Trustees for a four-year term and served on the executive committee and as chair of the academic affairs committee. From 2016-20, she served on the Alumni Committee to Nominate Princeton Trustees. She has attended and participated in the two alumni affinity conferences for Princeton women, the previous conference for graduate alums and the conference for Jewish alumni.
