Noemi de la Puente *86 CEE

Activist, Creative, Spiritual

Playwright; Engineer

Noemi de la Puente was encouraged to go into engineering by her parents, so she did. She received her B.S.E. from Caltech and went on to get an M.S.E. in civil engineering from Princeton. But she always wanted to do theater. So she did that too. She received her M.F.A. from the University of Iowa and had a performing career in theater that segued into a writing career. She is now an award-winning playwright/librettist/lyricist whose works weave together humor and social commentary. Her work has been seen all over New York City, including Joe’s Pub, and in the Lincoln Center American Songbook series. A monologue from her play “Counting by Twos” was published by Smith & Kraus. She now balances being an engineer at a municipal drinking water utility with her passion for theater. She serves on her township’s environmental committee and is an active supporter of co-housing in New Jersey. She is grateful to her husband, Ron Cohen *89, for all his love and support.
