As associate director of the Office of Technology Licensing and New Ventures, Tony Williams is responsible for supporting the protection and licensing of software and inventions created at Princeton University, with a focus on assisting Princeton researchers in all aspects of the development of startup companies to move their research innovations out of the lab and into the marketplace. After earning a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Cambridge, Williams gained postdoctoral research experience at the University of Edinburgh and then at Princeton in the laboratory of Robert Cava. He later earned an MBA from the University of Oxford, where he won a competitive fellowship to work for the university’s technology transfer office. Prior to starting at Princeton in February 2016 as new ventures associate, he worked on the technology ventures team at Imperial Innovations, the technology transfer office of Imperial College London and then one of the U.K.’s leading investors in academic-research-based startups.
